My name is Mark Wuerch, and I'm the new head of school for the international programs here at Sino Canada. I have worked in education for over 30 years in Canada, China, and Vietnam. In Canada, I worked for 20 years at private schools, where we ran the British Columbia program. About 10 years ago, I moved to China for the first time and worked at British Columbia schools in Shanghai for eight years. After that, I went to Vietnam and worked for one year at an Australian school, which was a very interesting experience. Now, I am back in China for the second time, and I'm very happy to be here again.
我叫Mark Wuerch，是中加枫华国际学校国际项目的新任校长。我在加拿大、中国和越南从事教育工作已有30多年。在加拿大，我在私立学校工作了20年，负责不列颠哥伦比亚省的项目。大约10年前，我第一次来到中国，在上海的BC校工作了八年。之后，我去了越南，在一所澳大利亚学校工作了一年，那是一段非常有趣的经历。现在，我第二次回到中国，很高兴能再次来到这里。

Anytime you move to a new country or culture, there are always differences in how things are done compared to your home country. One thing I had to learn when I first moved to China was the decision-making process, which at first could feel challenging because it sometimes takes longer than expected. You have to understand that reaching a decision acceptable to everyone may require more time, more meetings, and more relationship-building. In Canada, I was fortunate to experience Vancouver's multicultural environment, where we had many Asian parents at our schools, so I already had some exposure to addressing such cultural dynamics. This helped me integrate my experiences from Canada into my work in China.
每当你来到一个新的国家或文化环境，做事的方式总会与你的祖国有所不同。当我初到中国时，必须学会的一件事就是这里的决策流程，起初这可能会让人感到挑战，因为有时候过程比你预期的要长。你必须明白，为了达成一个让所有人都能接受的决策，可能需要更多时间、更多会议以及更多人际关系的建立。在加拿大时，我很幸运地体验到温哥华的多元文化环境，我们学校有许多亚裔家长，因此我对处理这类文化差异已有一些经验。这帮助我将加拿大的经验融入在中国的工作中。

My educational philosophy centers around several key principles, with inclusivity being paramount. This means bringing people together rather than excluding them, fostering a strong sense of community. In a school setting, it's essential for everyone to collaborate toward our common goals: providing students with the highest quality education while supporting their personal growth, intellectual development, maturity, self-awareness, and global citizenship. These objectives form the foundation of our school community.
我的教育理念围绕几个核心原则展开，其中包容性最为重要。这意味着凝聚而非排斥，建立牢固的社区意识。在学校环境中，全体成员必须协同合作，以实现我们共同的愿景：在培养学生全球视野、自我认知、心智成熟的同时，提供最优质的教育。这些目标构成了我们学校社区的基石。

Philosophically, I believe we must work collaboratively with shared purpose. I embrace this challenge, as schools that excel have mastered community building. In my teaching practice, I implemented this by co-creating classroom rules with students, ensuring fairness through collective decision-making. This participatory approach increased student engagement and compliance. Similarly, my leadership style emphasizes teamwork over hierarchy. Like players on a sports team, each staff member - teachers, support staff, foreign and Chinese faculty - has distinct but equally valuable roles. As Head of School, while I bear ultimate responsibility, our success depends on our collective effort.
从哲学层面而言，我坚信必须怀着共同目标开展协作。我乐于接受这种挑战，因为卓越的学校都深谙社区建设之道。在教学实践中，我通过与学生共同制定课堂规则来践行这一理念，确保规则通过民主决策实现公平。这种参与式方法显著提升了学生的积极性和规则遵守度。同样，我的领导风格强调团队协作而非等级制度。就像运动队中的队员，每位教职员工——教师、行政人员、中外籍教工——都扮演着独特而同等重要的角色。作为校长，虽然我承担最终责任，但我们的成功取决于集体的努力。
